Changing my mind, last second. I had a lightning shot ready to go and I was going to save this one for Best of 2006. Changing my mind last minute. Wishing I could take out that really distracting tree in the middle.

Acadia National Park, overlooking Bar Harbor. First night of the trip.

Raw convert, fix white balance, rotate for the slightly tilted horizon, crop, hue/sat, levels, sharpen, curves, minor dodging to make sure the mist is seen in the distance on a non-calibrated monitor

Greetings from the Critique Club

As I mentioned during the challenge, this made me smile. Now I have to try to figure out why. Moonlight is a difficult thing to capture - here you used the water and the mist magnificently to do so. Had it just been the moonlight, the mist and the water, it would have been a nice shot, but not a "make me smile" shot. It would have been a bit cooler, more distant. The lights of the harbor on the right bring the warmth of humanity to the shot and the resulting counterbalance is what I think makes this appealing to me.

Had I not read your comments, I'd have not particularly noticed the tree in the center as "distracting". In fact even after reading your notes I don't find it distracting. It's there, but only quietly so, and in a way provides the fulcrum to balance the composition.

And as an added bonus, the one ray of the moon is reaching down toward the lights of the harbor.

It still makes me smile.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

What a spectacular photograph!

I have a couple of really good moonlit scenery phoyos over the years and I know how rare a picture like this truly is!

The really unusual cloud formations make it even better.

A "10" from me....I'd give it an "11" if I could simply for the virtual impossibility that you could have planned this.

Wonderful job!

Now, how did you get the moon to look that large. Never works for me. This photo has such a soft feel to it. I really like that.

I don't know what to think of this.. parts of it I like (the left side by itself and the right side by itself).. the reflection of the moon.. but it seems awkward somehow.. I don't know what to focus on 5

This is a great shot. The moon is fantastic over there and in the reflection, and the lights of the buldings work well.
