This was a last minute submission (I was working in another pic, on which I gave up and tried to work this out), so I knew it would fall short (though did better than I thought).

The flower and its background was not very pretty at all, so in order to hide that, I decided just to keep the petals in color and desaturate the rest (camera feature).

I agree it got oversaturated and it came out more pinky than purple. Also I didn't like the crop myself.

Here's another rendition which I like more (though still too pinky):

i'm afraid i see mostly pink and very little that might be called purple.
don't understand why you desaturated the middle of the flower.

The flower doesn't look natural with the center gray like that. I would have liked the whole flower in color.

for me, the desat doesn't work here. I like the composition though.
