My first challenge entry!

It's not very creative, but given my homework load it's the best I could do.

Not much editing in PS because these chain rings are a magenta/purple already so I just bumped the blue a tiny bit to make them more purple, resized and saved for web.

P.S. I really wish I had a macro lens for this challenge!

Thank you to everyone who voted and left comments for me. I'm quite pleased with my 37th placement out of 283... not too shabby for my very first challenge entry! Just squeaked in an average above 6 too!

Kooka was a company that made all kinds of annodized aluminum bike parts. Back in the day these were really cool accessories to have... But now the company has gone out of business and I scored about 100 chain rings in a rainbow of colors for 50 cents each! If there are any bicycle dorks out there, you'll understand how cool that is :)

So I know a few people didn't like the text, or that you can see the entire ring, but I thought it was significant to the subject. Kooka 24 is a 24 tooth chain ring... count 'em for yourself!

If I use these chain rings for any other challenges I'll see what I can do to create a more dynamic image.

Nice but the bit of lettering there sort of ruins the effect.

it's good that you made the center gear off-center, but I don't think you went far enough. It is still completely within frame, and we can see other gears surrounding it on every side. There is a slight gradation of light from right to left and some highlights on the tips of the gears, but it is subtle and regular, while the background is completely black. The overall result is a static picture without much energy.

Clever and different. I like what you have done with the stark contrast between subject and background. Good luck!

Cool shot. This could be absolute abstract. The text brings the reality to the shot.
