Post challenge: Thanks for the great comments. Huge flock of what I think are starlings have been hanging around. They are not easy to shoot though, have to be the right distance away, and there is a lot of clutter here so hard to get a good background.

agreed. WAY underrated. I've often seen large flocks of birds in the evening and wondered how I would get a nice shot of them.

Starlings used to be my favorite in Canada, but I've seen some pretty impressive other birds around here too. Tough to light egrets evenly though because they don't fly so close...

This is excellent technically, but I like how - without a definitive subject - the picture has its own personality with the gradient of the sky and just the sheer complexity of shapes.

Certainly a photo in a class of its own... Ok, maybe 'photo without a subject'... :)

Wow, I would love to see this larger and uncompressed. It looks like it was munched by Save for Web. But seriously, wow... great shot!

Wow! I know you cropped this to emphasize the vast number of birds - I'm not certain that I like the tree even though I realize it gives perspective.

I didn't expect to love this, but i do. Wonderful abstract patterns of flight worthy of analysis by John Nash!

You'll probably get lots of comments about oversharpening and too much noise but I like this one.
