The New Orleans Superdome. I'm wondering how good of an idea it is to use such an American Image...

I feel like I got luck with the lighting being like it was that day. I tried to emphasize the rays of light. I was pleased with pretty much all aspects of this image. The only thing I wasn't sure about was the second building in the b/g.

As you alluded to in your comments, the lighting is very impressive here. It gives what would be a decent shot a real punch. The tones are nice and I like your choice of black and white - makes this seem like a very serene and solemn image.

I think what throws me is there is such a beautiful curve to the building... almost like a women's torso, and then looking at the bottom is sort of jarring, in comparison. Maybe it would be better, for me, if you had cropped to the point where the diagonal line of the bottom building *just* stops at the edge of the curve. That way you would eliminate both the building in the background as well as the diagonal line that contrasts so much with the curved main subject.

However, even as it is, I think this is a great shot! I wish I could see all of it on my monitor at once - I have a feeling I would like it even more. And really, the stuff about the bottom being in contrast.. it really does not take too much away from this image.

I gave this a 6 which indicates a solid picture.

The technicals: Perhaps a bit soft and/or a bit dark on the building. I might have tried to bump midtones. Perhaps it's a victim of the B&W conversion. The picture doesn't have too much pop from this point of view. Composition is the strong point.

The feel: A nice contrast between the sun and the building, but lacks punch after this.

The game: I did recognize this as the superdome, but someone who wouldn't might wonder what the shot was all about. You worried about it being too "american". I agree in the sense that those outside America, and many within, wouldn't know what you are shooting and understand the context.

The light beaming down from the clouds makes this image.

love the composition..I wish the bottowm left was cropped...and of course to do this you would have to crop the bottom third, and I can understand why you wouldn't want to do that...you would lose some of the weight, the immense dimensions..but might gain a really clean shape...
the reason I am suggesting all this is I find your shot compelling, and would want to play with it...
enjoyed this one...
very nice...

The sky looks very cool. Not sure what this building is, but it needs to be brightened or sharpened.

A shot that is close to my heart and close to my home...
The crop is great for this image. I love the rays coming from the clouds and the lines of the DOME. It's a strong image. I hope everyone can take it for its meaning!

very effective. maybe sharpening it a bit would have helped a little, but very effective nevertheless.
