Thanks everyone for the nice comments on this photo. Yes, the shutter speed was 1/200 ( the max flash sync speed on the D60 camera) The technique I used to freeze the wings was to use 5 flash units (vivatar 285's). I used only 1/16 power on each head so as to have a very short duration (measured at 1/10000 sec). I used a apeture of about f16 to ensure that almost all the light came from the flash units. So the bottom line is the effective shutter speed was about 1/10,000 enough to freeze the wings of a hummingbird. |

It's amazing to me that a shutter of 1/200 would capture make their wings still.
