Challenge: Electricity (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-400D Rebel XTi
Lens: Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
Location: Mong Kok MTR station, Southbound train, Hong Kong
Date: Sep 19, 2006
Aperture: 3.5
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/3
Galleries: Cityscape, Transportation
Date Uploaded: Sep 19, 2006

Shot handheld using multiple exposures at 1/3 second. This meant I could keep shooting for aaaages! Had so many pix to choose from, and then the crop! Ended up with this. YES, the lights are blown, but the purpose is to show electricity at work, so is it clear enough now?

10 mm on my EF-S 10-22.

Picasa2:

Levels (EDIT: "I feel lucky color/contrast" :-) )

Save to 640x

Think I should do OK this time, if I am not blown away, just as the lights in the photo are ...

................

Thank you for all the nice comments! 15 out of 121 works for me, this is actually a personal high for me. The shot was not planned ahead, had been thinking for a while, but when going on this MTR subway in Hong Kong I thought that here I had both transportation as well as illumination - both of which are greatly influenced by electricity!

Btw, I am all new to SLRs, so I only had my new 400D for 1 day when I took this shot. Haven't read much in the manual yet, it is all very intuitive for me, coming from an S2 IS ...

Higher speed and film? Don't carry a film camera. Higher speed? Then I would not have gotten the same effect of the train in motion.

And you are right, the train was not interested in me at all. Not that I could tell :-)

I am not sure I quite understand.

This is from the electricity challenge. Show electricity at work. So I do. The intentional motion blur is to show motion in an otherwise still photograph. Electricity is - amongst other things - giving us transportation and illumination, which is what I illustrate in this shot.

You write that the subject matter (the train?) is uninterested? How can a train be interested in anything?

I don't get it, but then, I am not the fastest animal in this forest, and English is not my mother tongue!

Beautiful job. Love the capture of the yellow - on the train, on the ground and on the sign. It brings it all together.

The movement is just great here. It's funy because when I was looking for examples of leading lines I saw an image very similar to this. This si a great use of shutter speeed and a great example of eletricity.
