CRITIQUE CLUB COMMENT:

IMAGE QUALITY

Good image quality with the exception of the depth of field. The number 17 would be better in my opinion if it too were in also in focus.

CHOICE OF SUBJECT

Excellent choice of subject matter! The clear acrylic dice on grass makes strange effects that really enhance the "abstractness." The numbers on the dice made me wonder what it was on first glance (hadn't read the title yet). That I had to think about it a moment was an indication that you did well because I'm a bit of a gamer and should have known better.

COMPOSITION

Overall the composition is good but I wish the blade of grass wasn't so clearly evident in the photo. You may have shot it that way on purpose but without the blades of grass showing I would have had to think about it more to figure out how you got the strange effects of green colors in the dice.

CREATIVITY

Thumbs up for picking the clear dice and shooting it in grass. That really created a nice effect. Thumbs down however for titling your photo with the words D&D and dice. In order for the abstract to have full effect I would prefer that you not tell us what it is...in other words make us work for it.

POST PROCESSING

I think the shot would have been killer if you had managed to selectively darken the background a lot more with an adjustment layer. Also, I might have cloned out the bright highlight reflections. I think those two things would have caused me to vote two points higher

As it is, if I had voted on this during the challenge I would have scored it a 6. To me the shot is abstract enough to meet the challenge though only marginally macro enough. It's definately an above average shot for me but not that something special that would give it a 7 or an 8.

Overall, great job!
