Playing with fire ... I know it is not going to ribbon, but I have not submitted so much recently. This was hard, to get a quick enough shutter, not overblown and yet enough detail of darker areas. Curious to see what happens - top 50% is OK with me (sigh) ...

Top 50%? Try with bottom 10%! Bummer, my second WORST score so far.

Haha, and I liked the image! I realize I am not skilled enough in this, after I was hinted to look at the work of the pros ... so I am low 10% on this, but next challenge (electricity) with scores starting to roll in could look like a TOP 10% instead and possibly a personal high for now.

Lesson learnt: Don't let desperation to enter a challenge make you submit something that really doesn't hold up ...

I think a faster shutter would help control the color of the flame a bit more

so many fired with so little number of entries. Enteresting. This is nice, gives a good flash area of the flame and the blue ring is nice as well.

crop here is distracting, would either want to see no hand, or more hand here

Back to comment: A burning match definitely shows a chemical reaction; however, the subject has a very low creativity factor and the glare from the flame is very unappealing to look at.

Too blurry and you're hand is in the picture.

If you look at photos of the excatly same thing (for example from Kiwiness if I'm not mistaking) than you can see for your self what's wrong with this.

It lacks sharpness, the flame is overlit and the composition isn't too good.
