I decided to clear my head this last weekend and get away from everything, so I took a solo camping trip up the 395 to the Eastern Sierra mountains. Among the many places I visited while up in the region, one was the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest in the White Mountains. I took this photo after a long day of hiking at 13,000+ elevation as I was driving back down the long dirt road that leads up to Patriarch Grove. Thought it might be a good candidate for Rule of Thirds. ;) I'm not expecting it to score very high, but I'm fond of it and had an amazing weekend that allowed me to take this photo. YAY road trips!

I think this photo is gorgeous. I can't speak for the rest of the voters (49th? wow...), but you got one of the only two 10s I placed in the competition. Colors are fantastic, depth is great, detail is tack sharp. I see now that you gave all of the light to the aperture... wise choice.

As far as the "thirds" thing is concerned, I think this image defines it. It's simple yet beautiful, elegant yet powerful. There's no question where we want to look, but you've kept detail in every part of the frame. Perhaps most impressive is that in an era of overmanipulation and postprocessing, you let the picture speak for itself. Great job.

Neat looking area! Interested to find out where ths photo was taken. Meets challenge. Pretty tones overall, but I think the shadows in the tree are maybe a bit too dark, comparitively. Nice.

This could have been a good lone tree entry.
