Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Rule of Thirds II (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-30D
Lens: Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC Macro for Canon
Location: Mexico City
Date: Sep 3, 2006
Aperture: 18
ISO: 100
Shutter: 30
Galleries: Urban, Architecture
Date Uploaded: Sep 5, 2006

Shot at 8pm (aprox), with 2 flashes used to paint the whole scene with light. One flash was in my hand and 'moved' around the scene, the other one, optical slave, was at the left side of the photo (not showing) aiming at the lower window.

Flashes were as follow:
1) Below the camera to bring the eye 'into' the image, and show floor's texture (rocks and grass)
2) 2 shots at the cross (as it was intended to be the main subject)
3) several flashes at the grass behind the cross mainly to activate optical slave and to bring up some detail in the grass as well
4) one last general flash at the whole house to bring up detail around the upper windows.

Post:
+Converted from RAW in CS2
+Slight vignetting
+Shadows
+Color temp (I wanted to have the cool light temp on the foreground and preserve the yellow light in the background)
+Contrast
+Color adjustments in the 3 different channels (hue and saturation)

In PS:
+Levels (in 3 channels)
+Curves (in 3 channels)
+Hue and Saturation
+B&C
+Selective Color
+Sharpness
+And lots of time until this was just the way I liked it.

This time I have no guess as of the final outcome of this photo. I bet it will be 6+ but let's see how the voters like it.

I was deciding whether to put this on the Simple pleasures challenge or this one but I guess it will score better on Rule of Thirds (I hope cross' placement, foreground placement and overall composition reminds everybody of the rule of thirds). I hope not to get attacked by DNMC nazis.

Oh! and if you are wondering, this is not my home ( I wish ), but it is 3 or 4 blocks away from home in a beautiful zone in Mexico City called San Angel.

Beautiful lights and colors...maybe a little bit busy composition.

I think some people are going to tell you the bright rocks are distracting, but I won't. I don't mind the contrast between the front and the back. I love the colors in this picture.

Very nice contrast of colors. All the colors in this shot are actually quite pleasant (as opposed to overwhelming), especially for a night shot. Best of luck.
