Its days like this that make you joyous to be alive.

I saw the sun tracking fast across the far bank and just knew when it got to the right point it would be beautiful. I had no foreground for the picture, so I ran flat-out and adjusted my camera at the same time. I thumped to a halt just as the sun hit that field. I fired off a shot, went to bracket the exposure as I’d had so little time to check it but the shot was gone forever. When I reviewed the one image I was relived to find the exposure was just right. It truly was a fine day.

I took some other pictures from the same point a few minutes later and while they were ok this was always going to be the one :-)

beautiful light and textures. i love the ripples on the surface of the water and the way the eye is led from the left side to the right side of the reservoir.

Wow!!! Amazing view, i wish i was there myself. I especially like the middle part of the green field where the patch of cloud just moved away making the light brightening only that spot. Vibrant color!!!

Wow, the background almost looks like a cartoon. I think the little bugs add a little more character to the shot. :)
Good job!

Insects! I would never have guessed. The Dales are indeed a lovely place. You're lucky to be nearby.

Thank you for your comments Pineapple and for adding my picture to your favourites. This is in the Yorkshire dales, a little further north than the areas affected by water shortages. It was a great day for photography, with the sun breaking through the clouds and painting the landscape.

They are actually a little swarm of insects, they show up nicely in the full size image. You can see them in the image “Fields of green” too. They added a little extra interest I thought.

Not the drought-stricken part of the Green and Pleasant Land, I am glad to see. The perfect trees along the hedgerow lines and their shadows give this a dramatic effect. Nicely done. The birds, a nice touch, would show up better in a larger image.
