Just put the cat on the table in front of the backdrop. Two 600W hot lights at approximately 30 Deg from the side. One aimed at the cat(left/high) and one aimed away(right/low), both with umbrellas. I used the dark grey background to show the outline of the cat, but yet let the rope stand out.

May not see the cat for a couple of days! An unwilling model!

Captive about to jump out of the frame and possibly the rope. Wonderful lines.

Really subtle; really nice; great shot. You have to look at it a while, but the feeling comes through and the darkness is nice.

I really like the way you just see the rope trailing off into the darkness first... then the eyes, and the cat! Really awesome effect!

My favorite of the challenge. I like how the dark background makes the white rope stand out as the subject, but there is something more than just a black background there...

Love this shot. I seem to be partial to cat shots and this one is done well. The composition is sharp and the crop perfect. The contrast of the rope against the cat is nice and his eyes stand out just enough. Very nice. Bumping up and adding to my fave list. Back for on elast bump. Giving you a 9 amd my top pick for the challenge.

Love this shot especially how you used the black background so the eyes and the rope stand out.

This looks like my kitty. I want to save him! i didn't like how dark the kitty is but then i rememberd that this is the rope challenge and if definatly puts the rope in the spotlight that way. great job on the detail in his fur. i know how hard that is with black cats like ours.

What a good kitty to let you do this to him - excellent actor too! I love the black on black and the lighting here. Great composition. Bumping you up to 9.

Very interesting photo, I really like it. But as with a lot of the pictures in the challenge it doesnt really depict "rope". It uses rope..but the idea that is being imparted by the photo isn't "rope". I have to rate it lower than I would if I was rating it for a catagory called "Tethered" or "restraint". I really like the lighting also.

This is awesome. I love the black on black. Hopefully you don't get dinged too hard for it being too dark. I think it's perfect. Back to bump. Yep, it's my favorite of the challenge! 10

Hope kitty rec'd a nice treat after this. ;^) I like the position you had when taking this shot with the camera being level with the rope on the floor. The color contrast (rope vs cat) works quite well here. You'll probaly here some remarks about the cat looking the wrong way (out of the frame), but I think it adds a little bit of mystery to the shot.

Anyway, best of luck to you in the challenge.

Maybe just a teeny, tiny, touch more light on the cat. But I like it a lot. One of the 3 ribbons I suspect. Congrats.

IMO it's too dark (used 2 monitors to look at it). It's too bad because it looks like it's a great picture and you had a very good concept. 6

poor kitty! needs a little more space at left side and bottom, otherwise well done. great how you managed to separate the fur from the background.

Like this a lot, scored it well but perhaps a small bit more light/exposure would make it even better for me - of course I can edit this comment out should you win!

Wonderful photography. Love this shot. Best I have seen so far and don't expect any better either. Don't be surprised if there are people who can see only the rope and bits that look like eyes.

There is something I want to metion though. I would liked the rope going out of the frame. I think it'd make people wonder more about the situation and what and where it's tied to. Add a bit of the unknown.
The way it is now, it does look like the rope isn't tied to anywhere.

Anyway, that's just a thought.

Well done.
