Because I was thinking about going to Petersburg again and have never processed this for a proper printable file I had another go at it.
This is the 1st attemtp:

Young soldiers (or marine cadets) marching in the morning. In the background you can see the Winter Palace (Hermitage). This was shot on the Vasilevsky Island, at the rostral columns (Birzhevaya Ploschad).
Unfortunately this morning the weather was bad and the light very dim. The cool thing of the resulting slow shutterspeed (I didn't open up my aperture on purpose) is the action blur of the walking soldiers.

Already early in the morning there are soldiers and marine cadets marching around the city. Especially on the Peter & Paul Fortress side of the Neva river. The marine cadets get up very early and can be found near the Aurora (Nakhimov naval academy) and at the back of the Petersburg Hotel.

(noise is added, also in the print)

I like the overall processing, including the "grain" addition here. There's a nice "traditional" or "historical" feel to the image and that works well.
Crop the left frame a sliver more? I think there's a torso and foot sticking out that might detract a bit. Also, is there a skew or a tilt to the image?

Great processing -- looks like a vintage shot. I love it. Thanks also for the notes -- they are very interesting and it's nice to know about what we are looking at.

I like this better than your previous edit. That's quite a location and worth a revisit.
