You've got a cute subject with a great expression and that's more than half the battle, especially with little kids.
There are a few areas for improvement. I have to ask, why the selective desaturation? If you wanted to try it, then you have done a fine job technically. Aesthetically is another matter. Do you want to focus on the pink thing or the face? With a selectively desaturated image, the color will immediately draw attention to itself as it does here. If that complements the subject, it's been used well. Unfortunately, here it overpowers the subject and doesn't work well at all.
Also, the focus is not very good, the face is quite soft and it seems the camera focused on the background. |

Hi Dawn!
You asked for comments? I think one of the first things people want to do in photoshop is selective desat. I did it too...I desated every image until I learned that it's like chilli - should be used sparingly:)
For me the pink is too strong here and distracts from that gorgeous face.
Also the focus is a little off. Have you tried using Sharpen>unsharp mask, in the filters menu? Play with that and you should see a huge difference Keep threshold to 0, radius to about 1.9 ish and amount try 100 ish. |
