Challenge: Fire II (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Nikon D200
Lens: Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D
Location: Canada Malting, Montreal.
Date: Aug 9, 2006
Aperture: 9
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1
Galleries: Urban, Action
Date Uploaded: Aug 10, 2006

3 flashes where diffused, then collimated, to obtain a soft spotlight effect on the background. 1 flash lit me. All 4 flashes where color shifted to incandescent lighting to match the color of the fire.

My wonderful assistant Carina was snapping away as i danced, refuelled, and danced. This one was the best of the 100 we took.

This was definitely a difficult shoot. We had to trepass into the good old Canada Malting abandonned building for this shot, twice.

Congrats on your top 10 finish. Great shot!

This is really good. On my screen, I like this a lot better when the darkness is turned down a bit to really highlight those eyes and teeth... the graffiti is somewhat superfluous and could stand to be a fair bit lower in lightness.

This picture looks amazing like that, the flow is improved greatly IMHO.

I'd rather be looking at the way the fire complements the creepy faces than just the rather nondescript character of the fire itself.

Top 10 - well deserved. I like it.

Very nice work. Great capture of movement in the flame with excellent sharpness on the poi swinger. The background graffiti and low keyness works great too. Bumping up.

Back again - one of my top 3 favs for the challenge. Bumping up to a 9.

Coming back to comment and I think this is a fantastic image. Great movement and action. I love the graffiti art in the background and your choice of highlighting it really works well. The focus is excellent, the control of the lighting is perfect. Everything that needs to be seen is very well lit but not so much that its harsh or unattractive. I started this at a placeholder 5 but the more I look at it, the more I see different elements that have been handled very well and the more I like it. Bumping to an 8 and adding a favorite.

Well done, you got the composition of the flames perfect to show the grafiti and the guys face

great choice of backdrop for this shot

Well done hitting non-fire subject with a single flash / strobe. Meaks for an intriguing image.

Ok - so this is just plain cool. So crisp and the lighting is perfect. Excellent composition. Bumping you up to an 8.

Your background adds a great effect to the shot.

Nice capture

Great dynamics and muted tones. Great composition and stop action.

What an amazing combination of foreground and bckground. The "gleam" on the tooth at first looked like part of the streaks of fire. I like how the background is visible but not completely - how it fades out on the left side.

I think this is a *very* awesome image.

Amazing pic, like the use of color and the brightness contrast against the background. Would be interested to know how you made it, and your source pics, it turned out one hell of a pic.

Fantastic clarity here! Overall I think this is a bit dark, but what you can see has excellent detail and color.

good effect, but I am missing the meaning of the light trails. Maybe there isn't any, but I find myself trying to read someting into it and I can't
08/14/2006 05:32:56 AM
The coloring and lighting is perfect for this...I only wish there was a more definate shape to the flame's pattern.
08/14/2006 04:38:28 AM
That's fantastic! Instant fav.
