Fortunately, I live near a beach where kiteboarders gather daily. This type of shot involves several challenges. Most notibly as with many action shots, is getting close to your subject. This shot was taken at about 75 yds. I don't have an extremely long lens, nor do I have a boat. Consequently I have to wade out as deep as I dare without risking water damage to my camera and hope someone comes close for a stunt. Nevertheless, most of my shots require some cropping to focus on the detail, and capture "the action".

Lighting is also a challenge, since more than half the waterscape is overexposed with too much contrast due to the location of the sun in the late afternoon.

The final challenge is finding a good subject (one who might qualify as an expert) and praying he/she comes close enough for some good shots.

If I had my dream, I would get a longer, sharper lens with a waterproof case for these types of shots.

Good composition, but the arm in front of the face really hinders this shot. With a person in Action, the look on their face (IMO) is key to making the viewer feel the picture.

The focusing on this photo, and everything else... just stunning. If I see one person gives less than 7 to this photo, I go personally smack him or her. 10 +

Incredible shot. This is the kind of action shot I aspire to. Focus, composition, stopped action. 10.
