Great action shot! I can see why they use mouth restrainers on the greyhounds--the dogs would be taking bites out of each other.

Take a look at the eyes, the dogs in the lead have a much different look in their eyes than the dogs in the rear. Just thought it was interesting.

mtpp, ignore the haters. Obviously the majority of people liked the shot. You cannot blame the photo for the cruelty of humans. Next we'll have some angry gardeners wondering why we picked a perfectly healthy flower just to photo it. ;)

Where I live in Greyhound racing isn't serious sport. All of the dogs were someones pet (mostly young people by the way). So I quess dogs lay on the sofa most of the day.

Personally I would buy puppy from legitimate breeder. I trust that in this part of the world they treat dogs well.

I think there is more amateur(not so legitimate) breeding FACTORIES for those breeds (little cute ones), that sells like teen spirit. Why isn't anyone concerned about that???

I think a lot of people are concerned about breeding farms. Your photo, however, is called "Greyhound Racing".

I understand in this case where no money is involved, the dogs would be from pet owners with the dogs living at home with them. Fair enough, but isn't this a different world from 'pro dogs'?

I feel this is a valid point as casual observer (myself included) might not be able to tell the difference between this hobby race and one for money.

Respectfully,

Darren

The sport is not cruel, some owners of these dogs are. That is why there are greyhound adoption agencies just about everywhere. I am an adopter of a wonderful ex-racer (who looks very much like the brindle on the right of this picture). Strider raced for 2 years before we adopted him straight from the track. He is no worse for the wear and now leads a very quiet and happy life with us, not to mention he is one of the best pets I've ever had the pleasure of living with.

The photo is fantastic and very much deserves a ribbon. Had I voted in this challenge it definately would have gotten a 10 from me!

I'm pretty sure that all these dogs are live and well today (even those who had to eat dirt in the race).
Dogs really loved the race ( I don't think they can fake it).
And There was no money involved in the event...although they sold coffee at the office.
It's more of an hobby than sport here.

I gave it an 8 with comment (which is below the average for "commenters") but I am totally perplexed at how you got 9 votes of 3 or less!!! Would love to know the comments (if made - I doubt it though) by those voters.

I have tried to shoot greyhounds and failed but granted, when I tried it was night time and that makes a huge difference. Excellent shot really really I know how hard this is to get right, you should still go back and get more with a tighter f-stop and even try some with it wide open too to get that depth. check a cd cover by BLUR they had a decent shot just like this.. well done congrats.

Excellent photo! Look at the determination and intensity in those eyes. Not to mention the ears flopping in the wind. Great exposure to keep the details in the white dogs from being blown out while salvaging the details in the darker ones as well.

This is really awesome!

This is a stunning shot. The angle of all the dogs is great on that corner. The one white dog in the center left - the way the muzzle is reflecting the light it looks like a mouth full of vicious teeth.

What a great shot! At first I didn't like the two dogs in the back not being in focus. But as I looked at the picture longer I realized it brought my attention to the three dogs in the front. I love the looks on their faces, the muscles in the legs and the mud flying. (8)

What a view! There is a lot to look at here and keep the viewer interested. The shutter speed used stops the action quite well. Just a smidgen of blur, probably from releasing the shutter? Overall, well done. Should be a top contender for this challenge. Congrats in advance!
