In response to your request for a comment on this photograph:
Overall, this is a great self-portrait, all the more so because I suspect you've taken it hand-held (forgive me if I'm wrong). I like the nice tight focus on your face, and the frank look you've managed. Sometimes, cutting off portions of the anatomy doesn't work, such as the top of your head there, but it's not so much of a distraction for me here. It all works quite well.
Effective lighting is probably the most important factor in portrait photography. There are tons of people at this site who know loads more about it than I do, but I think you've managed to capture a self-portrait with fairly effective light, which gives it an overall soft quality that satisfies. The catchlights in your lovely eyes are a great addition. A great image, congratulations. |
