I took pictures of a couple of different black and white horses for this challenge. This is the one I liked the best, it really looks like it is a grayscale horse. The paint black and white horses are nice, too - however, the grayscale look of this mare really appeals to me.

My husband drove me around a lot looking for black and white things for this challenge. I was hoping to find a skunk but we only saw dead ones on the road. Saw a couple of cute cats but thought they might be too common in the challenge. Thought of an idea with dominoes but I don't enjoy doing set up shots inside that much - too much hassle with the lighting.

Editing: Crop; adjustment layers for levels & curves (maybe contrast, too - can't remember for sure); noise removal with Helicon; resize, smart sharpen, sharpen tool on eyes, nose & mane; blur tool on upper background and lower front under horse's mouth.

Funny title. :)

Ordinarily, I'd suggest framing the horse's head further in. But the face is so dead square-on facing the camera that it makes a really nice stopping point as my eye sweeps up the body. And for this challenge in particular, it's great to fill nearly the entire width with B&W.

I believe the intention of the challenge was to take a b&w photo in color mode. This is why desaturation was discouraged. To make it more challenging. I don't think the challenge was to shoot a color photo with b&W in it. It may be a suttle difference in interpretation.

Very beautiful colors, good focus. The angle of horse feels too much 90°. In this situation i would go for portrait.7

Grayscale that I have does not have any green on it. Nice pic of the mare.
