My son Odin. I'm not sure if his very prominant veins are due to his being 16 weeks premature or not. I can see almost all the veins in my inner elbow, hands and feet too. but i was also premature(but just a little) anyway didnt have to do much to this since they stand out like that in real life. I didnt however realize his face was messy when I shot this so I know thats gross and distracting but he wouldnt sit still for any more pics after i cleaned him up. Id like this better in an advanced challenge as i could clean his face and lighten the eyelids, but I still enjoy it as is. especially since hes usually messy so its fitting for him. lol.

Don't know if this is the right way to describe it..
but I find this photo really emotional.

It's very striking and "raw"..

Powerful and impactful.

I think it is disturbing in a good way. A good image should disturb the viewer, rattle his/her expectations. the striking composition, the way the veins are slightly out-of-focus even though they are the subject of the photo, disorient the viewer just enough to make him/her vulnerable, to open him/her up to a surprising intimacy with the subject. It's a little bit scary, as being alive should be. I, for one, did not worry about the child. Look at that face! Nothing could be more healthy.

Welcome to DPC.. where people's assumptions are law.

I'm sorry that something so fresh and vulnerable needed to be seen as something disturbing or horrific.

Human nature maybe, but for me, there are far better ways to word things than throwing in assumptions or outright negative opinions. (aren't attractive or something to highlight is an *extremely* subjective viewpoint.. could have been worded much more sensitively).

Anyway.. I'm ranting now, but it starts to get old in this community.

Cheers for having strength and courage with this shot, and showing a vulnerable moment that you obviously feel is something worth sharing.

Thanks for the description. :) I'm glad to hear he's healthy!

And don't tell him I thought he was a girl. ;)

Wow. Makes me a little nervous.

A couple of things about this shot disturb me, which might be your intent:
- the veins are lines, but make me worry something is wrong
- the child looks like he's wearing makeup at a very young age

Edited to reflect post-challenge reflection in general and specific commentary from Artyste. I still feel it's a disturbing photo, but I should have worded it differently.

I looks neat, but I am afraid that something is wrong.

Such delicate and fragile looking skin. True life lines indeed.

I'm more drawn to the eyelashes. This is an interesting shot, both compelling and disturbing.

Very scary picture, I hope those lines are painted on. The picture is very well made, I like the use of narrow dof. I'd perhaps try to control the light on the left a bit more, but I like this a lot.
