I really liked this during the challenge. Something earthy, yet the green tones really bring it home for me. I think it should have been in the top 10 for sure.

* Greetings from the Critique Club *

Hi Nathan. I love this photo. I think it's the dominant green colour that grabs my attention. It meets the challenge well and is exposing enough to identify what it is.

Your focus looks spot on and the photo keeps drawing me into the little spike in the lower right. Your processing work is subtle enough to not 'over-do' it but adds a sort of inner glow to the artichoke. A very positive addition. I also like the idea of the vignetting and helps to sort of close up the image, especially in the lower part. It's hard to tell what other crops you could of used without seeing the original but the framing looks solid.

All up this image had a great performance with the voters and did very well for you. You did a nice job with the post processing and you should be proud of this one. I'm glad to see there is a print available too. Well done!

Neil

Great use of color and texture to bring this image to life. I know it's a plant but which plant I am lost ;)

Mmmmhhh - artichokes. We ate a coupel just last week. Great color work on this one. Glad you didnt pick a clean unmarked one as the spots and lines work great. You may be getting dinged for this being more of just a macro shot but not from me. Bumpin gup.

very nice...perhaps a tad dark, but not so much that I'd complain

ha, I tried this one too and could never make it look nice. This is about as good as I got. I just found the texture to be too "rough" to make it feel good as an abstract. Plus I don't even eat artichokes. What am I going to do with it?

Very cool. Might be a little too dark/over processed but still a good image for this challenge.

it is very abstract and I like the depth of the colours...the spine on the artichoke at the front adds interest
