I went to Santa Barbara and walked down a million steps to get to the beach. I found these trees that had fallen over years ago and have been beaten smooth by wind and water. I thought that with a longer exposure I could match the smooth look of the trees with the water. I climbed out on to this rock in the ocean to take the picture with water crashing all around me I was more than a little sacred for my camera.

Please give feedback.

Thanks

Joshua, thanks for your comment on my on the beach entry and I thoght I would return the comment. This is a cool shot I love the fallen trees and I went to school in San Luis Obispo so its nice to see something taken close to there. I really like like your attempt to match the smoothness of the water to the tree. But my tow things I might try to change would be to be closer to the tree since it is alittle hard to see how smooth the tree is. The second is that the photo appears alittle cool and wish the photo had more tints of red and magentas. That is only my opinion though and you can take it if you would like. THanks again for your comment and way to have such a high finish.

Very nice work. I think the large driftwood is a great interesting addition.

Great job! I loved the soft tonal quality of this shot, with the slightest hint of color coming from the sky. I love the way that the sand emits the wetness from the waves that have once covered it. I wish there was a little more color and definition (or less processing) in the water itself, as it appears to be fog more than it is water. But a great job in keeping with the theme, and making a photo that I don't have to fight to figure out how you met the challenge. I'm raising my original score from a 5 to a 7.

A good picture which IMHO would have been even better if you could have stepped back a little for a different cropping....(I think it would have been nice to see a little more of the cliff in the upper right corner).. But, as I said - a good picture :o)

This is so cool! The water looks like black oil or something. Love it.

Gorgeous. The slow exposure really works here.

Love what you did with the water.

The motion of the waves makes this very dynamic. Nice soft lighting as well. I find myself wanting to see more sea and less of the near cliff, though.

Where is this photo taken?!! It's very nice picture, that challenges the imagination. Great one, keep up the good work.

Nice point of view, but it feels a bit flat in lighting and color.

It's a lovely subject. I would like to see the same with more light cast on the cliff and trees. Well done with limited light, though.

Surreal and evocative

Rightmost 25% of photo doesn't add much, but rest of photo is nice. Subtle lighting, nice water blur.

I really like the slow shutter speed effect here. The greytone is ok, but I would like to see a little more snap to this. Maybe a little more brightness and contrast with a slight hit of saturation.
