I was totally out of ideas but could not avoid myself participating after almost one month of abstinence from challenges :) So this is my last minute effort to submit something.

Setup- Acclaimed photo by "Finbarr O'Reilly" at the base. The glass bowl filled with water on top and some wheat pods floating on it.

Post-Processing - Cropped, Selective desaturation of background, Saturation of pods, levels, curves, saved for web and neatimage with some sharpening.

Btw, this is my 50’Th challenge submission and I wanted it to be "good". I don’t know how it fares, but I'm satisfied with final resulting photo. Hope it is seen as "abstract food" though I myself feel it is Abstract photo “related” to food :)

Greetings from the Critique Club!

WOW! I love this shot! Makes me wish I had voted on this challenge but since I'm not a big fan of abstract I avoided it. But this is a lovely picture, I would be proud to put this up on my wall.

The desaturation and clarity and DOF are all just truly wonderful to me so I'm not the one to try to critique this. I'm betting the only reason you did not win this challenge with this shot is because you got a fair amount of DNMC votes and looking at the spread of votes I was right, this does not in any way deserve a 3, 4 or 5 vote but what can you do?

Wonderful picture, welcome back to the challenges! Can't wait to see your name on the front page again!

I hope my comments help and Good Luck in future Challenges!

This is interesting. I'm enjoying trying to figure out how you achieved this look. One complaint I have, related to the challenge, is this isn't really much of an abstract, at least IMO. Best of luck to you.

It seems the background and the foreground don't go together? Like the background is a print or display? Interesting concept.
