Challenge: Abstract Food (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Nikon D50
Lens: Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 ED
Location: bathroom
Date: Jul 11, 2006
Aperture: 5.6
ISO: -
Shutter: 30 sec
Galleries: Food and Drink, Textures
Date Uploaded: Jul 11, 2006

i took this photo using a 30 sec. exposure and only the light from my mobile phone. the camera was on a tripod which enabled me to move the light freely around it - creating focus in the appropriate areas.
my aim was to create a 'homely/morning/family' feel because this is how i associate with the fruit.
the crumbs, dirty discarded knife, well loved chopping board, forgotten fruit and the name "breakfast" were used to create a hidden narrative.
post-exposure process:
rotate, add boarder.

Unfortunately this will score low. For one it is not an abstract and for another, the image holds hardly any appeal. Sorry just being honest.

Lighting's a little flat and it looks a tad blurry to me. Also, doesn't look very abstract.

This image seems to be a bit underexposed and a bit out of focus. It also seems to be more of a still life than an abstract. However, the composition is pretty nicely balanced.

Dude....the avocado is rotten. You should have made guac before you let it get to that stage. What a sin! JK

I think this would qualify more as a still life than abstract. The lighting is a little flat and the focus a little soft.

There's nothing abstract about this

This isn't an abstract photo - which should have little or no pictorial representation 4

i think this falls more in the category of 'still life' than 'abstract.' try to use a light source that will give you stronger contrast between highlight and shadow. this looks like it came from indirect windowlight - which is a great source of light, but placement, time of day, and nearby reflective surfaces all make a difference.

Dull lighting, also needs to be sharper. I really don't consider this to be abstract. If you had focused closer on the shapes and textures of the avocado it would have been better.

abstract: Having an intellectual and affective artistic content that depends solely on intrinsic form rather than on narrative content or pictorial representation

Needs some lighting.
