While glass will possibly not be obvious enough for most, I liked the way this couple's lives (at this particular moment) were entirely surrounded by glass - by the shelter in which they huddled and their eyewear.

Thank you for some exceptionally thoughtful comments.

I'm very fulfilled that this photo has conveyed what I saw and felt to those of you who spent time to view just a little longer.

this is stunning, jon! i love the composition and the crop...it seems to isolate the couple even more and really adds to the whole mood of the shot. while i think the should have placed MUCH higher (actually, i would give this a ribbon) i'm pleased to see that it didn't finish TOO far down on the list. sorta gives me hope that the DPC voters are developing a more discerning taste.

Surprised at the placing of this one. As I said before it is a wonderful picture.

I didn't vote on the challenge, but I love this image. Everything in the photograph contributes to the mood. I'm going to add it to favourites now :-)

Excellent!!!!!! I'm not so sure that this is very DPC-friendly, but I hope that I'm proved wrong... I'm sure that some people will complain that the glass isn't very clear, but it's a very strong contributer to the thematic element of the photo. Also, I think that the choice to leave the top uncropped was a good one. Well done!

A nice moody shot, which the dirty glass helps to enhance.

I would have cropped much more tightly from the top. There's a lot of nothing happening up there. And maybe trimmed back on how much of the outside we can see - just enough to provide a frame. I think the space on the right works well, though; opening up a sense of the subject staring into empty space.

Nice composition. The dirty windows add a lot to this shot for me.

I like that the pane to the right isn't closed by a frame - gives them something to look to. Very nice.

Well done. This is excellent. The whole image fits together (b&w, dirty windows, framing, expressions.) Good luck in the challenge.

I love the dirty window and expressions on their faces.
Something seems a little strange in the framing though.
Nice work!

This would be better with a little less noise. I think some noise is good for this pic but not so much. nice candid.

I like the paucity of detail yet the free reign you give to the viewer's imagination to create whatever story around the photo they wish. Glass window, also a psychological metaphor. 9.

Well executed, and a great composition. The grain and the B&W work well together. Nice job.

Very nice, I LOVE the mood in this one, reminds me of the old films from the 1920´s or so, I gave this an 8.

This was about to be a low vote, but fortunately circumstances allowed time for it all to sink in. I'm not a fan of the overall composition (especially the amount of image given to the frame), but I do think you convey the emotion of the old couple very effectively. I fear this won't do as well as it should because it won't get the time it needs.

I simply Love this shot. The "harrumph'' look on the old man's face and the kind of sad look on the other guy seem to tell a story. Maybe the younger one is the son and taking his Dad to a nursing home. Or maybe both are back from a doctors appointment and all didn't go well.
Ever look at photos and try to figure out the ''story''??
This photo stirred something in me. I am bestowing a 10 ( also is going in my favorites)

This is my favorite for this challenge. The dirty glass, the black and white treatment and the interesting faces all make for a wonderful image. In fact, I am starting to think that this might be one of the best images I've ever seen. I wouldn't be surprised to see a picture like this in one of those coffee table books about famous photographers. Sorry for gushing, but I do think it is brilliant.

this one gives me an intimate feeling, like I'm watching these people. and that's a good thing. the noise (probably from an underexposed image?) looks good in an image like this. love the framing, in all it's ways :)
