I've always been told that when you spill salt on the table, you have to throw salt over your right shoulder.

There seems to be just too much going on so it's difficult to figure out whether the main subject is the hand, which isn't in very good focus, or the sharply focused, yet distracting food on the table. Good try though, people probably gave you weird looks for doing that in McDonald's.

The focus is not quite to my liking.

Good idea. I think it would benefit from more motion blur on the hand and more visible flying salt. The thing that really jumps out at me is the soda.

too many distracting elements and a lack of focus for me, interesting concept though

Can't see the salt very well. Exposure is a bit bright, and focus is a bit off. There was an entry that placed in the top 5 of the previous Superstitions challenge that used the same superstition. Have a look at it, and see how you could have added more expression to this idea.

Nice idea, but I'm sure you could have done it better - it isn't a very attractive shot, and it isn't very interesting either. The salt on the shoulder looks like dandruff! Nice try though

Why did you choose to do this at McDonalds? It's an interesting perspective though. I like that. 5

I see it but unfortunately looks more like dandruff, nice last minute set-up though.

this look cloudy overall but also would be better if the salt in the air was in focus. its so hard to see initially.

if salt was leaving the hand and in the air I would have given this a higher score, I didn't like the bland mcdonald colors either

L()L just looks like dandruff L()L. Can't really tell whats going on here. Just look like a snap shot, the light is overblown causing a bad effect I think.

While you have captured some of the throwing "motion" in the hand, I think the setting might hurt you here. While McDonald's is certainly a great place to get salt :), the overall setting is a bit distracting from the main subject of the shot. My personal general rule of thumb is to try and shoot in as simple an atmosphere as possible (i.e. usually one overall color in the background or shot with a tight DOF to blur the background out). Also, I personally think the shot would have had more impact if we could see the salt actually being thrown (hopefully not right at the camera ;) ) and possibly freeze it in midair with a flash. :) Great idea though!

This will probably get DQ'd because of the selective edit (dodging) on the pic.
