Taken early morning at Derwent Water in the Lake District.

Light on the boat was lovely but unfortunately not long after I arrived another photographer came along and set up his tripod just to the right of the boat meaning I was fairly restricted with the position of this shot :(

The main aspect that bothers me is the 'empty' space to the right of the boat.

Would appreciate any comments / critique.

Well worth the stroll too. I just read Andi's comments about re-editing, (about a yr ago!), did you ever? It's interesting to do that.

WOW 12 favourites and so much room for improvement T! As it is this is a great photograph (looks good on a card too). My challenge to you is to re read the comments then set about editing the shot again, its already a great shot but am sure you can make it pop just that little bit more T :)

The mist on the water is what makes this shot. Well, that and the lovely low light. I think the space is just fine. The composition is very well balanced to my eye. This is the kind of shot that really puts the viewer there!

It is a very beautiful shot. I love the rich color of the boat. The space doesn't bother me at all. It actually emphasized your composition. Great work. ^_^

I think the positioning is great for this shot. I also think all space has been used well. Love the textures on the canoe and the fog. The only thing I would like more of is saturation.

Picture Post Card Perfect.
The lighting here is first-rate as is the composition. Framing really presents this well.
An instant favorite.

beautiful scene. the colours on the boat are wonderful. if there is one thing i would change it would be to get down lower so that the stones come right up to meet you and the perspective is more dramatic.

This is really nice; great lighting on the skiff; terrific feel of fog on the water and perhaps the sun has come up a bit too much in teh sky; but you have a great ambience nonetheless/

The canoe is what makes this shot compelling to me. Without it the shot would be a little flat and need some contrast and saturation. The canoe cuts through that and draws in the eye. It has enough color and character to hold the picture together. Nice work.

You take some amazing landscapes. I really like the boat in this, it brings the entire picture together. I wish there was a little bit more contrast.

I love the composition of this shot. I like the colors of boat and how the angle/perspective makes it appear that it is approaching the viewer by 'sailing' out of the shot. The mood of the photo is one of a peaceful solitude. I agree with others that this is a great shot, it has all the right elements that make it appealing but if you do a little PS with upping the saturation, a bit of curves and some contrast adjustments it will move from the great category into the outstanding cateory.

This is a wonderful picture, I specially love the composition. But in my opinion it would be even better if you pump up the colours, play a little bit with the curves, a tad bit of contrast and small sharpenning. Then it would be spectacular.

Its a beautiful capture, Natalya. You surely have an eye for great subjects but there are some techicals which can be worked on. Seems like this photo is streight from camera and there is no, or very less, post processing done. The good thing is that its beautifully composed and looks like its well exposed also (no extra dark or light areas) and thus there good scope of what can be done in post-processing. I feel this needs a little bit more of contrast (to begin with). The light is ideal to play with some dodge and burn to give more dramatic results by highlighting the texture of wood on boat.

All said and done - this is great capture which is really tempting me to try my hands on post-processing to see what more potential it has to offer :)

In my opinion the empty space just gives the photo an isolated even peacefull feeling. I think if there were something in that empty space, it would feel cluttered, and you'd lose the effect of the angle of the boat drawing the viewer's eye to the center of the photo. The only thing I would say is that I wish the blues and greens were just a tiny bit more saturated. But it really is an absolutely wonderful photo.

I actually like the angle you used for this picture. The boat leads your eye further back into the picture. I also like the wasrm sunlight hitting the boat. You could try a little more saturation to enhance the color of the boat. Nice shot.

Yes, your right about the shadows, it was the 'empty' space on the left of the boat that I wasnt too sure about and would maybe have liked to have been able to explore other angles I suppose.

Thanks for your comments :)

Great capture of the light! I don't mind the empty space anywhere in the picture - to me it balances nicely and is very visually pleasing.

Very nice composition. I love the warm tones of the boat. What if you worked on upping the saturation of the sky a bit???
