The exposure time was quite a few seconds, this is not any part of the fire, the wood we were burning was popping profusely and i ran for my cam, and aimed at the black sky, the brightness of this shocked me! i was so surprised, i loved the brightness towards the bottom as it gave power and drama to the sparks, mind you not one part of this is the main fire! the sparks dancing and swirling were caught in slooooo moooootion.
thanx for taking a look! hopefully this fits in to this challenge.

::: Critique Club :::

Hi Christine, my name is Kari and from the critique club. I know this is your first entry and I think you have done really well. Congrats.

First Impression - the most important one:
Interesting picture for the challenge ... It is really entirely motion ...

Subject:
Well done .. meets the challenge well.

Composition:
You picked well to aim your camera so that you got a black background .. if it was a straight on shot it would not have worked. It is really a very busy shot with a lot of flare out in one courner. I found this is distracting but not enough to take away from the image ... but if it was not there would the image have been improved? - think about how you crop your pictures .. and the composition on you photograph them ... taking into account the golden ratio/triangle and also the rule of thirds ... having the strong lines in the picture working on vertical thirds rather than being in the centre of the frame may have helped with achieving this.

Technical (Colour and light):
This you have captured well .. always hard to capture colour pixels in a fire ... so they have flared out .... but the rest is quite magical. Also remember the contrast and brightness ... with fire you can really dramatise an image.

To grow its vote?:
Think about the cropping and bright/colour when adjusting levels ...

Summary:
I think this is a fantastic first entry .. and looking at your portfolio you are doing fantastic works.

If you've got any questions about this critique, please feel free to contact me via the PM system.

Cheers

Kari

I think this would be better if the white at the bottom left was cropped out.

Lovely shot. Strong sense of both heat and movement.

Very nice work. The blow out area doesn't dominate the image. As I suspect you may be getting comments stating otherwise.

This is good, the colors are great. The colors are clean. My only complaint is the randomness of the directions of the embers. Although, they are embers and move around relatively randomly. Nice pic :-)

I like how you placed the heat source in the corner, and the sparks made nice trails.
