Creative title to try to fit it into this challenge, nice shot nonetheless.

Awesome point of view. I like it and your interpretation of desolation too.

Nice cityscape, good light, but not particularly desolate to me.

Wonderful scapework and I can understand where you are heading with this.

With the title, very well done. Without it, no chance I'd have gotten the point :/ I think a photo should be able to speak for itself, the title just being an extra element. I know this is a very personal subject and therefore hard to cast judgements on things regarding the message, so perhaps someone else totally gets desolation out of the picture.

True, but too much civilization to really portray desolation. That aside, fantastic view!

I am truly having a great deal of difficulty in finding "Desolation" in this image. There is no Grief, Sadness, Loneliness, Devastation or Ruin visible in this image. Similarly, one could never consider the "Big Apple" a barren wasteland...hence my dilemma.

This is indeed a nice image, but you find that the voting public might vote it down a tad for not meeting the challenge criteria.

Beautiful shot! I love NY city! I'm guessing the observation deck at the empire state building. Great panoramic of a subject very dear to my heart. A bit of a stretch on the theme though. I'll still buy it. 10

This to me is where it gets tough because a photo like this is largely interpritation. I believe that a crowd could be very desolate in a way. This is a great image so I scored it accordingly, but if there were no title, desolation would not be what I personally think of, even though you may. A big city can be the most lonely place in the world, but this photo doesn't tell that story without the title. I hope that is fair.

Way too much sky makes for a very bottom heavy composition. You would have been better off with a much tighter crop.

even with a fancy title, i don't think you could really justifiably equate a new york skyline (filled with 10 or so million people) to be even bordering on desolate. besides, everybody is so friendly there, you oculd never feel lonely here! still, i do see what you're getting across, and though spiritually it's not strictly meeting the challenge, it is a quite thought provoking image, and yes, this provacation is bolstered by your title. it's a lovely picture, of course. actually, it definitely warrants some ponderous thoughts; it's quite touching. the sheer enormity of the concept of an individual in a place so populus. 7.

Indeed, this has the potential to meet the challenge as implied with your title. But, as it stands, it does not. If only you had processed the image to remove some of the rich hues and textures. Isolate some of the elements and create a city of desolate inhabitants (as NYC can be for some).
