Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: 30 Seconds or More (Basic Editing III*)
Camera: Nikon D50
Lens: Tamron AF 19-35mm f/3.5-4.5 for Nikon
Location: Eastern Townships, Quebec
Date: Jun 17, 2006
Aperture: f/3.5
ISO: 400
Shutter: 809.7 (bulb)
Galleries: Sky, Astrophotography
Date Uploaded: Jun 18, 2006

809.7 second exposure (or 13 minutes, 29.7 seconds) of the night sky, with a tree lit by a single candle in the foreground. I would have improved on this shot with a few more takes, but at 15 minutes per shot at 1:00 AM, I got tired (and cold) quickly. Editing was Noise Reduction, Sharpen, Color Balance, Brightness and Contrast, Resize, and Crop.

Good shot, amazing stars. The tree seems abit smudged though, would be great if it was perfectly still.

good star trails, but i wish the focus was sharper, either on the trails or on the tree.

A terrific star trail. I would say you went far beyond the 30 seconds here. I will give it a guess at about 30 minutes or more! lol. Nice that the tree wasn't moving much. I love dead trees to find for these shots because leafy trees seem to blur a lot but yours is really nice!

Good composition, but it would have more impact if the stars were in sharp focus.

Fantastic, I wish there was les wind so that the tree was even more still... How many hours did it take?

I don't really like the tree on the right side! I think it would have been stunning to Photograph just the sky / stars.

had a little bit of wind that night?

Nice composition... Well laid out...

A couple of things to note if you haven't already done this... use the self-timer to avoid your hand causing camera shake, weight the tripod to prevent wind-shake...

You might also consider a bit of curves work to shift that yellow out of the tree...

Nice stuff though... if it was around here, I'd have about 4 stars in the pic...
