Wouldn't you know it? The day that I had planned to shoot my poolside pedicure I ripped off half my big toenail. I thought a one-footed composition would look weird, so I came up with the idea of including a book that itself is largely about indulgences, limped to the pool with the book and a bottle of polish and posed them with my uninjured foot.

I wanted to show that little simple things like spending an afternoon by the pool painting your toenails and reading an Italian travelogue is just as unnecessary and luxurious as a supermodel covered in jewels and diamond dust draped across the hood of a vintage Lamborghini while holding a bottle of Tattinger. Luxury is not found in money, but in the things that you do for yourself "just cuz" which make you happy.

I don't expect this to break 6. It's certainly an "indulgence" and an "unnecessary luxury", but it doesn't touch "excess".

I like this! Nice compostion, definately sitting by the pool for a pedicure would rate as an indulgence in my book! I love the reflections of the clouds in the water. The only 'off' thing is that your ankle looks a little distorted, or soft or something. Great shot, though! I agree... should have scored higher.

Hi!
I think it is a clever shot! I like the colours and the comp:)
It deserved a much higher score...

Greetings from CTP2

Let me first say this should have scored higher. You may be right about why it didn't score higher but it could also be the neatimage, IMO. In any case it was a good entry. What I especially liked about this was the lighting and also the texture. The image also has a good tonal range and the whites and blacks are perfect. All in all a very good technical image that met the challenge.

Hello from Álex, CTP MkII

First Impression: agree completely with your notes about luxury. Nice and clever shot.
Composition: as you say the foot alone would have been weird, and the book helps. My only but is that the book is too perfectly aligned to the foot, and seems a bit "posed" to me.
Subject: very good for the challenge
Technical: focus OK, lighting OK, colors OK, but I would have liked a bluer pool.
Improvement: make the water a little more dark blue with selective colors and saturation.
Summary: good shot and keep indulging...

I'm the last person who should be saying this, since I'm guilty of it too, but I think there's a tad too much Neat Image, at least on the person's foot / ankle area. The colors are very good.

Now that does look like a good place.

This is one of my top three in this challenge, if not "the" best. I love the compositional elements, the texture of the concrete and the sky; perhaps less book in the shot? whatever- you have captured what could be a book cover or advertisement for a spa or vacation. nice shot, good luck.

I like it Becky, nice angles, nice composition, very nicely done.

You must have been Ms Contortions to get the shot!

I didn't read either but I did see Under the Tuscan Sun, maybe I should get the sequel ... I'm such a pansy-boy :(

perhaps not the most flattering view of your foot...another angle might have been better...nice light though
