One of your better efforts IMHO. Meets the challenge well. Good focus. Technically fine. Lighting good. Nothing I can think of to improve this. I was out of town and couldn't vote, but I would have scored this at least a 7.

Composition
Fine for what it is. Another time you could maybe try some different angles, so that its more of a bugs-eye view but I understand there's an element of luck involved in "setting up" this kind of photo.

Technical stuff (exposure, dof, lighting etc…)
Focus is spot-on, but would like to see a touch less dof to get rid of that distracting twig. Very well exposed

Meeting the challenge
Well duh :P

Post-processing
Coped with the noise brilliatly. Had it been advanced editing I'd have toned down the b/g, either desaturate some (not completely though) or blur more, or both.

My personal opinion
Technically a very good shot, you should be pleased with it - shame it didn't score so high there's not really much to fault.

I do find the b/g detracts form the image as a whole, because the dragonfly doesn't pop out so much

Well done on getting another photo in your profile top 4

Trading post...
I love bug shots. I think you did an excellent job of this and should have scored higher. Excellent detail on the left side of the wings. The bokeh is good. The only distraction is that one small branch sticking up to the right.

composition is good, dof is a bit to shallow, the wings on the right seem out of focus.
the background is way to busy, and there is a straw or wire on the right that's really distracting.

the colors are nice and that's a beautiful bug.... if a bug can be beautiful ;)

Tradin gPost -

Overll a good capture. I have never tried taking bug shots so I have no clue what its like but I would think that these kind of shots can be tough. I think you got a pretty good shot considering the really high ISO setting. Good focus and detail on the bug. Not too much distracting noise going on. The colors are a bit oversaturated in my opinion. Like several of us inthe trading group - if this were advanced editing I think we all would have done much better. This fit the challenge but the colors are just a bit too much overprocessed. Congrats though on getting a top 3 profile pic. It is always nice to see a new pic in your highest rated profile. Keep it up.

This is a good "opportunity" shot, and I like the blurred background. It is a bit of a problem, though, that the background color is SO similar to the dragonfly coloring. Makes for a lot of green, which is good for the challenge, but takes away from the impact due to the loss of "color contrast."

Keep shooting!

Composition/subject - Great choice of subject! Composition is good to get the body on the diagonal and get the wings nicely in the frame without being cramped. The picture would be better without the stick on the right and a bit less clutter in the background but when shooting nature, you take what you get!

Technical - Really very smooth given that it was shot at 1600! Focus is excellent.

Meets challenge - Yep, there's green in it. Like the bits of green in the background, too.

My opinion - A good bug shot, fascinating to look at. Not sure why it didn't score higher, but the sixes outnumbered the fours which is good.

Cool macro of this dragonfly. I've tried to shoot dragonflies, and I failed. Looks a bitmapped though.
