Had nothing to do tonight, and i had this idea in my mind. First off i was gonna use one of my girlfriends. But when they all bailed, i just did it myself.

Lit with one Bowens 500w.

Just put it on timer and ran in front of the camera.

Taken in RAW, ran it through rawshooter and darkend it.

Then in Photoshop. Levels, USM, Crop.

::: Critique Club :::

Hi, my name is Kari and from the critique club.

First Impression - the most important one:
Ok .. naked man .. I could get used to this ... :)

Composition:
In taking the shot I think you needed to be slightly angled from the light to enhance one side of the body only with the light rather than having two seperate lines down the back and buttocks.

If I was at home I would have taken a copy and tried the following for the crops:

- have the lit part of the body on the vertical thirds
- tried to do with slightly less negative space above the head (not surethat would work)
- tried a crop that was the torso to jsut below the buttocks

Subject:
I know that this meets the challenge but I think that voting was affected by some who don't like nudes ... not really sure .. but that is the way it appears to me.

Technical (Colour and light):
body defintition is good, I do find that having that second line of light is destracting and not needed ... I think that there may be a slight over sharpening ... I love the effect of tyhe lighting and think that you have done really well with it.

To grow its vote?:
its about trying differrent things to see what will work .. this did .. but to improve try turning the body to get different effects and recroping to see how that improves the shot. Hve a look at the shot that came fifth .. what has been done there is to take the whole of the back and not split it with the lights ... this is also quite a lot of a warmer shot.

Summary:
this is really good .. well done ... quite a different shot for your portfolio .. keep it up.

If you've got any questions about this critique, please feel free to contact me via the PM system.

Cheers

Kari

Good use of light to bring out the natural lines and curves of the human form. Maybe a tiny bit more of an angle with the light would have brought out more curves along the back side.
