While voting I was taken aback with this image. I had to do a double take. A true beauty. Congratulations on your 4th placing.

cool. I took a series of pictures as well of this building when touring the campus with my son and family. Neat building.

You know those pictures you took do have excellent colors - I don't think dusk was a mistake. Maybe bring a tripod next time and go for a longer exposure. The reflective nature of the buliding makes it ideal to photograph in different light conditions (Monet would have had a GREAT time with this!)

Excellent capture - I was there at the Strata center trying to get a picture for the challenge but ran out of memory after 3 snaps. I also made the mistake of waiting for dusk because I hoped the lighting would be more interesting then. I saw the front of the building and never saw this photo - so good eye :).

Just to indicate how much worse it could have been and instead how well you captured it.

Congrats for your photo and for your 4th place! I admire Ghery's creations (we don't have any here in Greece) and I think your interpretation through the lens was really exciting (I gave you a 7)! I wish you a ribbon the next time!

Thanks for the votes and comments all!
Going to the Stata Center at MIT was not my idea. magnus thought of this building as soon as the architecture challenge came up. What a great building! And the sun was just coming out after the rain. Magnus and I share the one camera and kept passing it back and forth - one taking shots while the other scoped ahead around the building. We took 150 shots. I got to look through mine first and picked a few. Magnus helped me narrow it down to this one. Only once this was submitted he looked at his shots and found one very similar but felt he couldn't post it with mine already there. Poor Magnus!

Magnus' version:

I took more pics too:

Looking at this makes me a little dizzy, almost like it's going to fall on me. Maybe could brightened the building a bit, but otherwise a solid shot.

This is a pleasantly disruptive shot. I think the somewhat cold tones here work well with the subject.

Wow this is so cool! I bet this would look great if you had a tighter crop and filled the frame (with no sky).

05/29/2006 01:39:06 PM
Funky. I like the simplicity of the sky. That goes well with the complexicity of the building.

I usually require more than just the building to get a higher vote, but this one stands well on its own. 8

Darn it if I keep handing out 10s for perfect framing, perfect color, perfect exposure and perfect tac sharp focusing I am never going to get a ribbon. Good Job
