self comment on my self portrait: I feel lost. I feel old and I want to be even older than old. I want to be a fireman who had to carry his water with him. I want to be a hero. I want to write books and be in books. Old books.

My primary reaction is: so THAT'S what you look like. You look troubled, my friend. Whether it's because smoke is in your eyes, you're feeling what your comments say, or the camera went off before you were ready, I couldn't say.

You're smokin' man :-) Interesting SP to say the least. Needs a bit more contrast for my tastes.

Ah yes, one other thing to add. Ever heard the Russian saying? "How can you tell if your heart is on fire? Smoke gets in your eyes." The origin of that famous song. Looks like you're in love, my friend!

A dose of Neat Image and Liquify could make you look as young as your comments sound.

the man is lost. his eyes squint but it doesn't seem to be against the smoke - its more of a tightening - his lips are the same way. But the upturn of his eyebrows show his confusion. He is lost. At the same time, he doesn't seem to want contact. He's not reaching for it - he's trying to hide. Is that what you wanted to show? Someone who wants to disappear into the background? Into the bushes - he's already melding with them now.

This image is fun for me, but almost entirely for personal reasons. The smoke lends an effect that reminds me of my early darkroom days, when I'd forget to poke the paper all the way into the developer, or when I hadn't fixed all the light leak problems in the room. The smoke also helps to blur the details enough that the hair merges into the trees, and those branches in the lower right look like they're pouring out of your ear.

You sure you didn't take this 60 years ago? That smoke makes it look so old. I kinda like it. If you wanted to make it look even more like an old image I would get more of you in the shot or make it an oval crop. The way you cropped it here makes it feel too modern for me. :P
