Pushed +2.0EV with RAW.
Bumped up saturation and lightness on the blue, adjusted levels, smoothed background to remove the noise there, and NI on the whole image.

It's the wick of an old dry oil burner, that would light up with a big flame for a few seconds, then just smoulder for ages.

even though it does meet the challenge, it's really not something that catches the eye.

it's really well lit, but the soft colors and low light makes this unfortunately rather boring.

the composition is good, but I think it would have helped to show some part of the lamp so people would know what they were looking at.

This shot didnt speak to me. You have some good colors present, but the noise and abstract aspect of it left it lacking in my eyes. I figured the blue was probably a flame but I dont think it translated over well in the pic. It may have done better in an abstract challenge had the detail been a bit better in focus.

I loved the colors in this shot, but thought the focus was lacking. I have difficulty decifering what the subject matter is...but I thought it was a candle. Now I have the benefit of your description. I gave it a 5 largely because of the focus/blur.

Camera Work/Technical: Wonderful colors here. One of the strengths are those beautifully contrasting blues and oranges, but it's really hard to see if everything is in focus or not.

Lighting: This is very interesting because the subject is its own lighting as well. It provides for a very moody photo, and it makes the image appealing.

Composition/Content: Great composition with a nicely followed rule of thirds.

My Opinion: I think that this one scored close to its potential for this site. While the colors in the lighting are very interesting, I think that it would fit better in an abstract, or even complementary colors challenge. Heat is visible, but the subject is not outright obvious.

Trading post...
Is this a zippo lighter? I tried taking the flame on mine for this challenge but couldn't get it to look good, so I didn't enter this one (just couldn't come up with anything else). If that's what this is, excellent work. The background is so smooth and black.

hello again.

this is a nice image. not sure that it conveys heat well. i mean to say, it is difficult to actually see what it is.

so you got the flame and this "stuff" in it. but that is all i see. the image itself is great (in my opinion) but it seems to not "fit" the challenge well.

maybe.

This is where I like advanced editing :) I selected the background loosely, basically selecting anything I wanted smooth while avoiding any detail, and leaving a slight gap between selection and the detailed areas. Then Filter > Noise > Median, at whatever radius works best.

OK, I gotta admit that I still don't know what this is. That aside, I like how the blue forms sort of parenthesis around the smoldering part, and the colors are not only complementary (past challenges just keep coming back, don't they?) but well presented. Whatever you did to remove background noise worked well - it's very black and smooth. Now, what is it? :)

Excellent.
The only thing this photo lacks is focus.

It took me a second to realize what this was. Nice colors here.

This composition needs a little work. The image quality is ok. The subject matter could have been better. This picture could be a little more creative.
