Challenge: Self Portrait IV (Advanced Editing IV*)
Camera: Olympus C-5050Z
Location: Great Lakes, IL
Date: May 18, 2006
Aperture: 2.0
ISO: 64
Shutter: 1/200
Date Uploaded: May 18, 2006

I wish I'd had more time to pull off this idea but when the ideas don't come to you till the last minute what can you do. In retrospect I would probably make sure there is a top to the pole (broom stick)so it didn't look so much like a split screen and more like it should.

My camera allows for you to take two images and it combines them into one all in camera. Much the same way you would use a black cover cover half the lens and take a photo then changing the half and shooting again.

Since I can't shoot in RAW mode while doing the 2 in 1 I just had to shoot JPG and adjust from there.

Adjustments made:
open
selective color adjustments
shadow/highlights
crop
USM
Hue/saturation
save

----------after challenge notes--------
here are some outtakes I did during the challenge and some retakes from people suggestions.

Really intreguing idea! Caught my attention for sure. Maybe its just my monitor, but the color balance feels a bit off. Otherwise, I think its a unique shot and quite well done.

Neat shot :)Am not sure why it needed validating though unless my first thought of a mirror is wrong?

Leaves you syaing how did he do it? but also leaves you saying why did he do it? I get it show your mischeivious tachnical side; like a silent film villian, menacingly wrenching your hands as you pull off your feat. good luck.

Nice concept. Wish I had been this creative. Would have given much higher score if the image were overall 'warmer'.

I'm curious as to how this was made. Is the wood a mirror frame?
05/20/2006 02:18:07 PM
I like the concept, however the photo itself seems to be a bit flat and IMO does not quite express a self portrait to me..5

Fantastic idea!! Would have been even more amazing without the frame around the mirror!

This is such a cool shot - I just wish the color was better. It looks like the white balance is off.

Well, this is only 1/2 a self portrait... If it were a full one, you'd get a 16.

Great Shot. Creative.

What a fantastic idea and you have succeeded in bringing it through. The colours are gorgeous, the fact that it is centered is a must of course, impressive shot. This is my second visit and I am bumping it.

You're a pretty thin guy! :)
05/19/2006 09:00:11 AM
Great idea but I think you could have done more with it. In particular the image quality is not so good, dull and noisy colors and not very sharp. 6 from me.

A clever idea and a well executed photo. I hope you'll explain how you did it when the challenge is over.
