We knocked down our fireplace a few days before so it provided a perfect backdrop for a still-life. Plus my folks had just bought that wooden basket, and we had lots of food in the house. Ashamed to admit all the veg was from the supermarket though...

Was tempted to include a memento mori in the style of classical still -lifes, but thought that the majority of the voters wouldn't get it and it could be an unnecessary complication to the composition.

beautiful still life, compostition, colors and lighting is excellent, the subject is very well selected and placed in the image, the only thing that I think doesn't fit is the cloth under the veggies, it doesn't look medieval or Renaissance, but everything else in the image fits to those eras.

hello again,

i thought this was absolutely gorgeous. scored it very well.

the only thing is no vibrancy. i think it is probably not supposed to have any, but that may have got you a bit more points.

very well done.

Congrats on a new PB. That is always nice to see. I liked this shot. My comments still stand. Great feel but a fuller basket would have been nice. Great shades of colors and wonderful detail with no focus issues at all. Well done.

Top 25 and your highest scoring photo to date...very well-deserved. I think that the only thing that kept you out of the top 10 was the tool set blending with the bricks. Great toning, excellent subject and nice composition. Congrats on the great finish.

I have no real idea why I like this so much, but I really enjoy looking at it. I don't even really focus on any one thing. Very cool.

This is awesome! I love the nostalgic feel to it. This would look great matted, framed, and hung in a kitchen. One of my favorites! 10

Great rustic feel to this. The colors and lighting work well. A couple of more items in the basket would have helped out some.

Nice composition. Not enough contrast for my taste between the brick and the fire tool set. Having the fire tools and basket close enough to vistually "touch" might improve the composition slightly. 6

I love the "heavyness' of this arrangement...the brick hearth, the iron tools, the sturdy stick basket filled with hearty root vegetables...very nice.

This meets the challenge – it’s inanimate and arranged. More of a situation than a composed picture, but we (I) can't have everything... 6
