::: Critique Club :::

Hi, my name is Kari and from the critique club.

First Impression - the most important one:
Dogs are so bloody difficult to shoot ... well done.

Composition:
This is very frame centred .... and I do miss the paws .. sorry to repeat whatyou have already heard.

Subject:
Meets the challenge ... and is in her environment .. what is funny is how many of the comments you received that found just that very distracting.

Technical (Colour and light):
Is well lit naturally ... it seems slightly oversharpened to me ...

To grow its vote?:
I don't know that animals did well in this challenge ... it seems that voters till wanted a person in the shot ... if you had Ed the hunter there as well I think it may have done better.

Summary:
is a lovely shot .. good work.

If you've got any questions about this critique, please feel free to contact me via the PM system.

Cheers

Kari

beautiful dog, but you've got distracting background elements. specifically, branches coming out of his head.

Good detail on the dog! Is it a German Shorthair? The cropping is a bit too close for my taste...the dog has such lovely mottled patterns in the fur, but that lends it to blending in with the background. So a little more background might help define the dog, instead of overpowering it.

what a great face this dog has.... the gleam in her eye really makes her face stand out.. a little less busy b/g would have made her really pop out

Certainly a nice GSP. Good photograpg, eyes clear and I like the expression on the face. Two things though, I think the photograph would have been just that much better if you had got the front paws too. 7
The second (didn't affect my vote) but I think the subject would have looked better without the shock collar.... but then again I suppose it adds some weight to the hunting theme. Well done

I find the branches distracting, especially the one that looks like it is in her mouth.

Shame the feet are cut off (only by such a short amount). Nice pose by the dog, however, it is lost slightly in the background (which I suppose is a good thing for a hunting dog!)

Nice pose! A shallower DOF would have kept that stick out of her nose.

I'm intrigued as to what that is on the dogs collar - I do hope it's explained in your comments. Not a bad animal portrait, and definitely fits its environment.
