I get the idea, but there's too much happening visually in the picture to communicate it clearly. Maybe if one of the fallen trees dominated the frame.

Yes, interesting idea, but does it portray desolation? Just because after a storm, doesnt mean everyone's left the country.

Also, I see the fallen trees, but the numerous living ones still erect totally contradicts and ruins the effect. The bright green leaves also give the picture a 'Alive and well' feeling.

Perhaps a different angle or area of the forrest?

However, well done. Good try. =)

Desolation, devoid of comfort, warmth or hope. To me green implies hope, this photo in black and white would have been given a higher score.

this year has been so lush with all the rain that it is hard to find desolate and empty space
