"Dawn Patrol" is a terminology used in the surfing culture to mean... a surf session in the morning before the sun rises, usually to avoid the big crowd in the middle of the day. Hence Dawn Patrol.

About the picture. This was taken at the Kewalos Boat Harbor, the two kids here are about to jump into the jetty and paddle out to a surf break called "Kewalos". I took this candid just for fun and it reminds me on what it was like to be young and to have a good friend at your side.

Ok, you've taken the photo well and you clearly know how to use your camera to the get the best results, your other competition entries back this up. However, I think that despite being technically sound, this image doesn't best link itself to the competition itself. There isn't much in your image that really distinguishes itself as something to do with 'cinema' instead of just another happy holiday shot.

Your DOF is perfect, keeping just the interesting subject(s) in focus and allowing the fairly uneventful yet setting background to remain slightly blurred. It works well with the small details on the two boys such as the reflections on the right and shadows on the left with the small sky-reflecting pools of water at their feet.

For me, this image shows something that is about to have a piece of action in it, but doesn't stir up a need to keep observing the scene. I think that one of your still motion shots of the surfers doing what they do best might have gone a little further.

Good Luck with all Future Competitions!

Cool shot but really the title doesn't make sense so it spoils the image a little too.

I like the exact same poses of the boys. Doesn't really look like a movieposter to me though.

This looks like a boring PBS special, but with pretty cinematography, even if it is handheld video.
