The Day this challange was announced, there was a big strom in my city (Hyderabad, India) and the lights went off for 30 mins. So we had placed the candle on our old candle stand. Thought it might serve as a good pic.

Edits: small amount of crop. Thats ALL

Well, where to begin... The idea for this photo was a good one and I think that with a bit more careful technical expertise, it could have been a winning shot.

The first problem is the grain in the image. This is commonly found when a digital camera takes a night shot. They tend to over-compensate and the result is a lot of 'noise' in the image. To avoid this you can either just shoot in lighter conditions, or you can use a much longer shutter speed.

The next thing is the camera shake. Always brace the camera when taking the picture, even if it's just on a pile of books or someone's shoulder; one has to do it to obtain a nice clear image.

I think that once those two pointers were undertaken, you'd end up with a lovely crisp, clear shot that would have at least doubled the place you received.

Good Luck for all Future Competitions!

The candle is a bit blown out and more sharpness would greatly improve this, I think.

Unfrtunately too much noise. Night shots are so difficult. Tripod will help a lot. I'm planning to buy myself one very soon :)

Too grainy for me, and there looks to be some camera shake. But I like that the bottom portion of the candle holder looks like a cast shadow rather than just a silhoutte.

The candle-holder seems out-of-focus to me.
