This was SUPPOSED to be my Negative Image entry, but I blew it and accidentally put the darn thing in the wrong challenge. With a single errant click of the mouse, I eliminated myself from the MS Tournament, killed my streak of top-10 Open Challenge finishes and left Team 20D short-handed against our toughest competitor. Aaaaaugh! :-(
I was on vacation in Florida, so I couldn't really use any props or creative setups. There goes my crutch! I figured it would take a very graphic image to translate well as a negative so I planned to shoot zebras as my subject. On the last day of vacation, we went to the local zoo and... no zebras! Uh, oh. :-(
I went back through my shots for the week and focused on the silhouettes. My favorite was taken too early for the challenge, but this seemed to work OK. My model is holding up a scarf on the beach and silhouetted by the setting sun (the positive version ain't bad either).
Processing: Noise Ninja, crop, levels, curves, saturation and color adjustments on blue, cyan and magenta channels. Sure wish I had Advanced editing for this one! I was trying to hold as much highlight detail as possible while minimizing the visibility of the skirt. The strong vignetting in the sky and streaks of light bleeding around the knees were unavoidable with a shot directly into the sun. I only hope the voters will see past those flaws. |
