Greetings from the Critique Club Brando.

At first glance I find this a pretty powerful shot. While his condition is definitely sorrowful, it evokes more emotion from me simply because of the smile. If he had a sad look on his face I don't think it work work so well. Your photographers comment using the definition of spirit is spot on.

Composition is good. I do think it would be just a bit better if you had cropped just above his crutches taking the items in the store windows out. They pull your eye towards them and away from the subject. Using my mouse I find the image more powerful scrolling to show just the black windowsills above him. I do like the fact that you didn't crop just below his feet but left a small bit of space. I also wonder how it would look if you moved just a bit to the left during shoot and crop him to the left 1/3 showing more open space to the right.

Overall a good job here and a capture you should be proud of.

Thanks for the opportunity to critique this image Brando.

excellent shot, excellent composition. not your typical front page material, but that would depend on the story. not to sure about the bw treatment, either (very, very few pubs run bw on the fronts).

Very journalistic - I could see this in a newspaper article about the homeless. Very sad. Technically a well done shot.

Great subject but it leaves you on the outside of the picture. I think it would have had more impact if you had gotten down on his level and taken it from a lower angle, would have put you into the image and made it from his perspective.

sad. very sad.
about the photo: as i always say ... taking photo while standing is not exiting at all, "we" have to explore different angles, exiting ones ... do you agree ?
i know there is not enough time for experimenting but just in this example we could just crouch for a second and take it ... oh, i'll stop now :-)

peace

Powerful composition. I would love to see the exposure brought up a stop or two. Great sense of moment
