Cute shot! One minor thing that I noticed that I thought I'd mention is his glowing ear. Might want to tone it down a bit. Other than that it's really cute with great detail there.

As far as getting more contrast straight from camera, I can't really help you there other than saying shoot Jpeg and increase the in-camera contrast. But who wants to revert to jpeg? :-) If what you're looking for is faster workflow, I say shoot RAW, and if they all kind of look this in a session, just batch process them all with the same contrast settings. -just my two bits.
