Challenge: Desolation (Classic Editing)
Camera: Fujifilm FinePix S602Z
Location: Delfzijl, The Netherlands
Date: Aug 10, 2003
Aperture: 7
ISO: 160
Shutter: 1/56 s
Galleries: Abstract, Landscape
Date Uploaded: Aug 10, 2003

Taken at about 6:30 AM, a few minutes after sunrise with a thin morning fog in the distance and a foggy layer on the surface of the river.

The dark shapes in the foreground are part of an industrial outlet to dump warm water, causing steam.

I shifted the hue a tiny bit towards yellow and slightly desaturated the colors.

I'm sorry this didn't rate higher as it's my very favourite of all the entries. I guess everyone didn't feel as strongly as I did about it. I really think it's so evocative.

cool pic.

Sky tones, the steam (?), the disorganisation of the wind turbines - it's like a landscape out of Terminator, only they never had this sophisticated an imagination. All that stops you getting a ten from me (a rare thing indeed) is the feeling that it's all a little too distant - I'd have tried less sky, perhaps losing the turbines to the left, and cropping closer to the 'islands', just to see how that felt (of course you may have, and may have rejected it). Still the most desolate shot this week :-)

Terrific shot. Meets the challenge, is interesting and I like the color. Good luck.

I like it. At first I was wishing for more contrast but then it wouldn't look like a dust storm. The ground colors are very unique. I will be interested to find out where this was shot. Nice job.

This is a very strong photo.
You've got the whales in the front -I guess- and the wind-energy-mills in the background. That is a nice presentation of environmentally friendly making of energy. The background preserves the foregroud in a way. The toning is a bit papyrus colored, a cold blue setting might do better.

Edit:
LOL Industrial water dump outlets, not whales........

You have caught the dreamy effect. How impression is it. Great job.

i love the muted colors in this.

The horizon is a bit tilted (slight, but important detail).

Actually might have been better w/o the windmills. The dust devils would do nicely if cooperative

WOW!
What an incredible image - ghostly, otherworldly, ethereal, moody, lonely...
I would like a straighter horizon but everything else is just right!
10!

That most certainly is desolated! Was it kind of foggy on it's own, or did you add that? It looks great! :)

wish the wind farm had just a speck more presence
