I chose to keep the beat up part of the stem in because if I cropped it out I would lose the nice petals on the bottom. If this was an advanced editing challenge that would have been solved. Oh well!

This does look like a flag doesn't it?

Sometimes, just because of the challenge topic, a really good image gets beaten up. I really like this one, the composition, the mood, and yes, i feel that beaten up stem suits the image, wouldn't have fixed it even in an advanced editing challenge
I guess the colours not being saturated enough is what might have put the voters off.
I happened to just browse to your profile, and instantly liked this one.
Once again, a really lovely image

This image tells a beautiful story. You have some good comments and I can only add my appreciation for a fine interpretation of the flower and the Challenge. (('m one of your five "nines")

Keep up the good work.

A beautifully sad image. I don't know why, but it's evoking a very tragic feeling--rare for a flower shot. Very good! I hope this does well.

I really like the composition of this photograph. Perhaps if the flower had more contrast and sharper details, it would be more appealing.

when you redo this (I know you will :) ) burn in the stem a bit and you will have a classic I think

4 - Not bad for a dead/dying flower shot. Like to see more green incorporated.

Not bad, but the colours aren't very exciting. A bit more saturation could have helped make them pop.

Very nice. The green is a bit too faded and the petals are too red but the overall effect is good.
