Shot with telphoto lens with extension tube. Thought I would try a different approach and shoot through some yellow tulips located in front of the purple tulip to try to make the foreground yellow.

Magnificent colours here. Oh, I am begging for the focus being just just a tiny bit sharper on the mid-tulip...

This is a comment from the Critique Club;

Lovely flower shot. IMHO - the yellow forground doesn't work though. That is why this image didn't score above 6. Love the purple though. Can't see how people see it as "oversharpened". In fact, in my opinion the purple flower needs a tad more sharpening.
DOF and composition is very good.

I see you have a couple of positive 6 entries - This one was almost there. I know people would've punsihed you for that yellow. I see that somebody mistook DOF for noise - My opinion - and commented on the yellow and gave you a 2 :-( Think loads of votes went like this.

Anyhow - great work - keep it up.

Wow! This photo is so beautiful!! I love that depth of field giving this almost an ethereal look! I don't get the 5.8 tho. Should have been much higher.

Great Colors, Love the leaves coming up around the middle flower.

I like the limited DOF effect and foreground colouring.

I like this photo, wish the middle flower was a tad more in focus, still an 8 from me.

Nice image. I'm not sure about the yellow bokah acting as a filter, but I guess it works for this challenge.
04/30/2006 06:03:11 PM
the soft focus on the foreground is interesting
04/30/2006 08:40:14 AM
the yellow is very faint so as its not a main focus liek the purple its doenst fit the challenge enough in my opinion
the yellow blur seems added jsut for the challenge and actually bothers me more than anything.

very beautiful and i love the DOF used for this shot
04/29/2006 12:25:02 PM
nice capture
04/29/2006 11:22:31 AM
the colors are a standout choice, but the sharpness level lets down on closer inspection.
04/29/2006 09:12:26 AM
good color
04/29/2006 05:56:33 AM
what's that yellow part?
04/28/2006 01:52:55 PM
I like how it "blocks" the view. I don't mind the green but the contrast would be stronger without it.
04/28/2006 02:21:13 AM
There is noise in the green, which happens quite a bit on my 20D where there is not enough light. The yellow, while it is kind of intersting, gets in the way of the subject of the picture... Had you made the yellow a part of the subject, as opposed to a supporting layer of the subject, then you would have scored higher with me. 2

good shot, looks like more of post processing
04/26/2006 10:38:42 PM
5 - Nice. Good use of 'forkeh'. Difficult, but like to have seen more definition in the fore tulip, and less green, especially the straps/leaves.
04/26/2006 08:46:54 PM
Nice arrangement. I wonder if focusing on the flower itself may have made a more stronger impact.
04/26/2006 08:09:10 PM
Great use of shallow DOF to provide that yellow aura. Looks a bit oversharpened (halos on edges).
04/26/2006 10:12:21 AM
Perfect. You should do well with this one. Good luck.
04/26/2006 04:57:16 AM
this is really nice...love the dof and the yellow...perhaps a little blurry where it counts...but nice job
