Challenge: Something New III (Advanced Editing IV*)
Camera: Canon PowerShot G3
Location: Albuquerque, NM
Date: Apr 16, 2006
Aperture: f/4.5
Shutter: 1/1250 sec
Galleries: Nature, Floral
Date Uploaded: Apr 18, 2006

One small piece of new growth on a snowball bush...the background is just a bunch of grey rocks (pretty standard front yard in New Mexico).

This is my first real attempt at advanced editing, and it is certainly nothing fancy. A little dodge and burn of the flower, some selective desat, that's about it (of course in addition to the normal levels, contrast, and such).

I don't expect this to do amazingly well, but I think it's a decent picture and I like it.

Nice color and composition. Don't care for the border.

I like it alot, the color of the plant and the background, it just works for me. Very nice shot.

I think the border was a bad decision for this shot. While it does a good job of encasing the photograph, the color being almsot exactly that of the plant detracts from the impression that so much green makes against the field of white in the background, and again with the brown stake. Setting this aside, the color of the image is great, nice and simple. Excellent focus, and the bug makes it more interesting that it might have been.

I love the vibrant greens of the picture; they contrast wonderfully with the background...which looks, actually, B&W. Is this image the result of selective-color processing? If so, is such editing allowed in this challenge?

Lovely hydrangea. It reminds me of a praying mantis, the way it's reaching out from the stalk. In this case I think the border works, as it keeps my eye from wandering off into the grey, and is small enough to be inobtrusive.

I've seen a lot of plants and trees... Yes, they meet the challenge, but where is the creativity... It's the image that stands out from the rest that wins me over.
